LAND ROVER AJ200P ENGINE
The AJ200P is Land Rover's 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine, part of the Ingenium family introduced a year after the diesel AJ200D. It's fitted across five Land Rover model lines - Defender, Discovery, Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Velar - in outputs ranging from 200 to 300 hp.
The AJ200P is the petrol counterpart to the AJ200D, sharing the same basic architecture while using a twin-scroll turbocharger for improved response and different timing and valvetrain components.

APPLICATIONS BY MODEL
In the Defender (L663), the AJ200P powers the P300 variant from 2020 onwards. The Discovery (L462) uses the same P300 designation from 2017. The Discovery Sport (L550) has the widest spread of AJ200P outputs - P200, P250 and P290 (the latter discontinued after 2020). The Range Rover Evoque (L551) carries P200 and P250 variants from 2019, while the Range Rover Velar (L560) uses P250 and P300 outputs from 2017.

Because the AJ200P spans five different models across multiple generations - with outputs ranging from 200 to 300 hp - compatibility comes down to confirming your exact model, generation, and ECU calibration. Early vs late production variants differ, with improvements made from 2019 onwards. Registration/VIN matching is required before we confirm any rebuild or replacement. A Defender P300's AJ200P isn't a drop-in match for a Discovery Sport P200's unit, even though it's the same base engine code - ancillaries, mounting, and ECU software all differ.

WHAT WE REPLACE:
Timing chain assembly, bearings, gaskets, and oil filter housing gasket as standard on every rebuild, with VVT solenoids and the twin-scroll turbocharger inspected and measured during strip-down.
KNOWN ISSUES:
Timing chain stretch is a well-documented issue on petrol Ingenium engines, with chains known to fail at around 100,000 miles. VVT solenoid issues can cause performance problems and rattle. Higher-than-acceptable oil consumption has been reported on some applications, and turbo pipes can fail. Oil pump malfunction can occur on some applications.

The AJ200P is the petrol version of the 2.0-litre Ingenium engine, introduced a year after the diesel AJ200D.
