LAND ROVER Ford Duratorq ENGINE
The Duratorq is a Ford-sourced 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine (Puma family), used in Land Rover applications between 2011 and 2016. It's a chain-driven engine - not a belt - and was fitted across the Defender (late Puma-generation), Discovery Sport, Freelander 2 and Range Rover Evoque.
The same engine family was also used in the Ford Transit and Mondeo, though our work here covers Land Rover-badged applications specifically. Across Land Rover, it appears in both TD4 and SD4 variants, with the SD4 carrying a higher power output.

APPLICATIONS BY MODEL
Across the Defender (L663 Puma, 2012-2016), the Duratorq powered the 2.2 TDCi variant during the final years of the classic Defender's production. The Discovery Sport (L550, 2014-2016) used it in TD4 and SD4 form before the Ingenium diesel range replaced it. The Freelander (L359, 2011-2014) carried it as TD4 and SD4 in the final years of Freelander production. The Range Rover Evoque (L538, 2011-2016) also used the Duratorq in TD4 and SD4 variants before the Ingenium engines took over in the L551 generation.

WHAT WE REPLACE:

The Duratorq uses a chain-driven timing system, not a belt - which means timing chain tensioner wear is the primary timing-system concern rather than a belt replacement interval.
