The Td5 is a sophisticated 3.0-litre inline-six with an integrated starter-generator and electric auxiliary compressor — a more modern and efficient design than the older Td5 V6. We replace timing chains, bearings, water pump and gaskets as standard on every Td5 rebuild.
Because the Discovery Td5 uses a completely different engine family from the V8 M178 fitted to the Discovery 63 and GT 63 S, parts and rebuild specifications don't cross over between them.

The Discovery Td5 uses the Td5 — a 2.5-litre inline-five diesel, fitted from 1998 to 2004 across the D2 generation. It was the last of the classic Discovery diesel engines before the TDV6 era, and remains a popular choice among Land Rover enthusiasts. The Td5 is a completely different engine from the earlier 200Tdi/300Tdi units — electronic injection rather than mechanical, and a five-cylinder layout rather than four.
