The TDV8 and SDV8 are Ford/Land Rover joint-development V8 diesel engines, produced from 2006 to 2019. The 3.6L TDV8 was introduced first, followed by the 4.4L SDV8 (448DT) as a more powerful and more durable variant.
These engines are fitted across three Land Rover model lines: the Discovery (L319 D3/D4), Range Rover (L322/L405), and Range Rover Sport (L320/L494). The 3.6L TDV8 is known for timing chain tensioner issues on early L322 models, while the 4.4L SDV8 is considered more durable with fewer reported catastrophic failures.
