What a Land Rover Engine Inspection Involves
Our engine inspection and assessment process is a structured, multi-stage diagnostic procedure. We don't guess — we systematically work through from consultation and visual inspection through to mechanical tests, borescope inspection, and, where required, a full strip-down. The result is a clear, detailed inspection report with photographs of any damaged or worn components, and a quotation based on the actual scope of work identified.
We use JLR SDD/Pathfinder/TOPix diagnostic equipment and precision measuring instruments. Every inspection is carried out in our Essex workshop using the same tools and methods that inform every rebuild and replacement we undertake.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a Land Rover engine inspection take?
A standard initial inspection including visual check and diagnostic scan takes 1–2 hours. Compression and leak-down tests add additional time. If a strip-down inspection is required, this typically takes 4–8 hours depending on engine complexity and access. We'll always give you a clear timeframe before any work begins.
Do you use official Land Rover diagnostic equipment?
Yes. We use JLR SDD/Pathfinder/TOPix diagnostic systems, which are the same systems used by official Land Rover dealers. This allows us to read and interpret fault codes and live data accurately for all Land Rover models.
What happens if I authorise a strip-down inspection?
We remove the engine from the vehicle and mount it on a stand. Components are systematically removed — ancillaries, timing cover, cylinder head(s), and sump. We inspect pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, bearings, and cylinder bores. Any damaged parts are documented with photographs and included in your inspection report.
