Engine Removal, Refit & Final Testing

Engine removal, refit, and final testing using Land Rover workshop procedures and JLR diagnostic systems.

What This Service Involves

We carry out full engine removal, refit, and final testing for every Land Rover we work on. This isn't a bolt‑in‑bolt‑out job — it's a precisely documented process that follows Land Rover workshop manuals and uses the correct JLR diagnostic tools.

Whether we're rebuilding your original engine or fitting a replacement, the removal, refit, and testing phases are identical in rigour. We disconnect all systems, extract the engine using correctly rated lifting equipment, prepare the replacement unit, install it with exact torque specifications, reconnect every component, and validate every system before the vehicle leaves our workshop.

Every vehicle then undergoes a full road test and final diagnostic scan to confirm that performance, emissions, and noise‑vibration‑harshness (NVH) levels meet Land Rover standards.

Starting Price

Engine removal and refit is included as part of our full engine rebuild or replacement services. Prices vary by engine type — see our pricing disclaimer for full details.

Rebuilds start from £1,900 (4‑cylinder diesel) and rise to £6,500 for V8 twin‑turbo units. Contact us for a fixed quote after inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does an engine removal, refit, and testing take?

Typically 3‑5 working days from arrival at our workshop, depending on the model and the extent of the rebuild or replacement required. We'll give you a precise timeframe after inspection.

Do you test the engine after refit?

Yes. Every engine undergoes a thorough start‑up, oil pressure check, coolant circulation verification, and a full JLR Pathfinder diagnostic scan. We also road‑test the vehicle to confirm performance, emissions, and NVH levels meet manufacturer specifications.

What diagnostic tools do you use?

We use JLR SDD (Service Diagnostic System) and Pathfinder, along with standard OBD tools, to read and clear fault codes, verify sensor values, and ensure all systems are operating correctly.

Is the removal and refit included in the rebuild price?

Yes. Our quoted price for a rebuild or replacement always includes the full removal, refit, and testing process — there are no hidden extras for these stages.

Do you offer a warranty on the removal and refit work?

Yes, the entire job — including the removal, refit, and testing — is covered by our 12‑month unlimited‑mileage warranty. Full terms are available on our warranty page.
