Land Rover Engine Rebuild Process

Our workshop-proven 10-step process — from arrival and strip-down to machining, reassembly, testing, and handover.

What the Engine Rebuild Process Involves

A full engine rebuild means dismantling the engine to its bare components, inspecting every part, machining the block and crankshaft where needed, replacing all wear-and-tear items, and reassembling to factory specification. Every engine that arrives in our workshop follows the same 10-step procedure — regardless of whether it’s a classic 200Tdi Defender, a TDV6 Discovery, or a modern Ingenium-powered Range Rover.

The process is carried out in-house, using Land Rover-specific tools and diagnostic systems. We don’t outsource machining or assembly — every stage is completed on the premises, with quality checks at every step.

Land Rover engine rebuilds start from £1,900  ·  12-month unlimited-mileage warranty  ·  Pricing disclaimer

Our 10-Step Engine Rebuild Process

Every engine that comes through our workshop follows the same systematic procedure. This consistency ensures quality, traceability, and a reliable outcome every time.

01

Vehicle Arrival & Assessment

Vehicle arrives at the workshop (often via recovery). We carry out an initial inspection and diagnostic scan, then consult with the customer and provide a quotation.

02

Engine Removal

Vehicle is placed on a lift, fluids are drained, and all connections are disconnected. The engine is then lifted out safely using specialist equipment.

03

Strip-Down & Inspection

Engine is mounted on a stand and stripped down completely. Every component is inspected for wear, damage, or out-of-specification conditions.

04

Component Assessment & Quoting

Components are assessed for reusability. The customer is updated on findings, a final quotation is prepared, and authorisation is obtained before work continues.

05

Machining

Cylinder block is bored and honed, crankshaft is ground and polished, cylinder heads are resurfaced and pressure-tested. All components are brought back to specification.

06

Parts Sourcing

All required parts are identified and OEM-quality components are sourced. Parts inventory is checked to ensure everything is on hand before reassembly begins.

07

Engine Reassembly

New bearings, pistons, and rings are fitted. New timing components, seals, and gaskets are installed throughout. All components are torqued to factory specification.

08

Reinstallation & Reconnection

The rebuilt engine is lifted back into the vehicle, all connections are remade, and fluids are refilled to the correct levels.

09

Testing & Calibration

Engine is started and run to operating temperature. Diagnostic scans and calibrations are performed, and leak checks are carried out.

10

Road Test & Handover

Full road test is conducted, followed by a final quality check. The vehicle is valeted and handed over to the customer with full documentation.
