What This Service Involves
An engine replacement is the complete removal of your vehicle's existing engine and the installation of a replacement unit. Unlike a rebuild, which disassembles and refines your original engine, a replacement uses a different engine — either a reconditioned, remanufactured, or used unit matched to your vehicle's exact specification.
We handle the entire process: collection from your location, the physical swap in our workshop, and full road-testing before handover. Every replacement comes with a 12-month unlimited-mileage warranty.
Read our guide to choosing between rebuild, replacement, or used for more context.

Our Engine Replacement Process
Arrival & Assessment
Vehicle arrives at our workshop (or we collect it). We record the registration, VIN, mileage, and engine code. A pre-removal check confirms the vehicle's condition and the engine's specification.
Engine Removal
All fluids drained, ancillaries disconnected, exhaust and cooling system unbolted. The engine mountings are undone, the transmission is supported, and the engine is lifted out using a crane.
Replacement Preparation
We inspect the replacement engine on the stand. Ancillaries are transferred from the old engine, new seals and gaskets fitted, and the timing system is verified. The engine is filled with fresh oil and fitted with a new filter.
Reinstallation
The replacement engine is lowered into the bay and all connections reattached: mounts, transmission, electrical, fuel, cooling, and exhaust. All fluids are refilled to correct specifications.
Testing & Handover
We start the engine, check for leaks and fault codes, and complete a thorough road test. The vehicle is cleaned and handed over with full documentation, including the 12-month warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between an engine replacement and an engine rebuild?
A rebuild disassembles and refines your existing engine in-house. A replacement uses a different engine (reconditioned, remanufactured, or used) installed into your vehicle. We explain the decision in our Rebuild vs Replacement comparison.
How long does an engine replacement take?
Typically 1–2 weeks from your vehicle's arrival to collection. This depends on the availability of the replacement engine, parts, and our workshop capacity. We'll give you a realistic timeline during the quote.
What warranty comes with the replacement?
Every engine replacement we carry out comes with a 12-month unlimited-mileage warranty covering the workmanship and the supplied engine. Full terms are provided before you commit.
Do you provide a quote before you start work?
Yes. We carry out a thorough inspection of your vehicle when it arrives at our workshop, then provide a fixed-price quote for the replacement. There are no hidden costs.
Can you match the replacement engine to my exact Land Rover?
Yes — we match engines by VIN, engine code, power output, and emission standard. We also check ancillaries and drivetrain compatibility to ensure a correct fit. Read more about our matching process.
Do you collect the vehicle, or do I need to bring it in?
We can arrange collection and delivery via our nationwide recovery service from £70. You're also welcome to bring your vehicle directly to our workshop in Billericay, Essex.
