What This Service Involves
The AJ133 is a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 used across the Land Rover range — in the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Defender, and Velar. Over time, the timing chain system can wear, leading to noise, reduced performance, or in some cases, failure. We replace the primary and lower timing chains, guide rails, tensioners, and cam phaser actuators as a complete system, using revised JLR-spec parts.
Because the supercharger sits directly on top of the engine, accessing the timing chain requires careful disassembly — we remove the supercharger, intake manifold, radiator, and front timing cover to reach the chain drive. Every job is timed to JLR manufacturer specifications using specialist locking tools, and the engine is road-tested before collection.

FAQs — AJ133 Timing Chain Repair
What does the AJ133 timing chain service include?
We replace the primary and lower timing chains, guide rails, tensioners (using revised JLR parts), and cam phaser actuators. We also fit new gaskets and seals, and set timing to JLR manufacturer specifications.
Why does the supercharger need to be removed?
The supercharger sits directly on top of the engine on the AJ133. It must be removed to access the timing chain drive, so we remove it carefully and refit it with new gaskets and seals.
How long does the repair take?
Typically 3–5 working days from arrival at the workshop, depending on parts availability and the condition of the engine when opened.
What warranty do you offer?
We offer a 12-month, unlimited-mileage warranty on all AJ133 timing chain repairs we complete.
Do you use genuine JLR parts?
We use revised JLR timing chain components, including the updated tensioners and guide rails, not generic aftermarket parts.
